Fluffy Homemade Breadsticks

December 1, 2020

These homemade breadsticks will take you right to carb heaven! They are pillowy soft, fluffy, and brushed with melted garlic butter. They are irresistible and everyone at the table will devour them.

Bread. If there’s one thing I really love, it’s bread. The smell of it baking, the texture of it, the perfect side for almost any meal, it swoops up any extra sauce with stews and soups… the bread possibilities are endless. 😉 When I still lived at home and my mom baked bread, my lil sis & I always raced to get the first warm, buttered piece. I get flashbacks of those days all too often when I bake bread in our own home now, my boys always come running when they hear me taking it out of the oven. 🙂 They can easily down one baguette loaf in a sitting. Or these breadsticks! They’re a big hit in our house and they’re often requested as an after school snack.

The dough is very easy to work with, especially for beginners who are nervous about working with yeast. My youngest has often helped me whip these up. It’s that simple! The dough only needs 10 minutes to rest, 12 minutes in the oven and you’re done. This recipe easily doubles as well, if needed.

Bake a batch of these super soft, buttery garlic breadsticks next time you have spaghetti night. Everyone will LOVE them, I promise you!

Yield: 12 breadsticks

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups bread flour
GARLIC BUTTER
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, fitted with the dough hook, mix the water, honey, oil, yeast and salt. Add the flour gradually until a soft dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. The dough should be soft and smooth. You can add up to another 1/2 cup of flour, but no more than that.
  2. Knead the dough for 5 minutes in stand mixer.
  3. Cover bowl with a clean hand towel and let rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven at 450F.
  5. Divide dough into 12 portions. Roll each piece of dough into a 7-inch log and place on nonstick baking mat or parchment-lined baking sheets.
  6. Place breadsticks in the oven for 10-12 minutes.
  7. While breadsticks are baking, combine butter, salt and garlic powder in a small bowl.
  8. Carefully remove from oven and brush them with melted butter right away.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!

I never seem to have luck with recipes that use yeast and I’ve now made 48 bread sticks, every one of which turned out wonderfully.

    Great recipe Amy!
